Pediatric Dentistry

A Pediatric Dentist (also known as a Pedodontist); is a dentist specializing in child dental healthcare from infancy through to teenage years. Child oral healthcare is complex because kids are growing quickly, and their needs are constantly changing.

When it comes to the oral health of your child’s primary teeth (first teeth), it is best to start practicing good oral hygiene as soon as the first baby tooth appears in the mouth. At Dubai Dental Hospital, we ensure that your child’s teeth stay healthy and free from decay and other dental diseases.

Our Specialists

Parent consultation

A parent consultation session is done during the first visit to discuss the medical history of the child and also discuss the purpose of the visit.

Behavior management

At Dubai Dental Hospital, we know how overwhelming a visit to the dentist can be for your little one. Our ’Behavior Management’ program helps your child bond with our dental healthcare provider by eliminating fear and anxiety while familiarizing the little patient with the tools and equipment.

Facts

  • For more complex dental treatment (under general anesthesia ), our patients are treated in either Mediclinic City Hospital or BR Medical Suites - both located in Dubai Healthcare City. An agreement of collaboration with the two clinical entities is in place to provide a more suitable environment for our patients who need complex treatment.
  • Sedation – happy gas also medically known as the nitrous oxide sedation is used throughout the dental treatments of our anxious child patients.

What happens at your child's first visit to the dentist?

The first dental visit is an important step for your child’s oral health and general health.  It’s important that parents talk about the first visit to the dentist in a fun and positive way.  Let your child know and understand that his or her teeth are important and that dentists will help them to keep germs away.  Your child’s teeth will be checked for decay. Our dentist will also evaluate whether the facial bones and teeth are developing properly. Your child’s teeth may also be cleaned and his or her oral habits assessed.

An investment in a healthy smile and a healthy future

Pedodontists focus on instilling life-long  good oral care habits in young.  They can help you and your child in several ways:

  • Education: Caring for a child’s teeth is different than caring for your own. Your child’s dentist can advise you and your child on childhood dental healthcare practices like brushing, flossing, and proper nutrition.
  • Preventing long-term problems: Your child’s dentist can advise you on potential long term problems, including early diagnosis of cavities and potential orthodontic issues which may require further intervention.
  • Preventative treatments: Regular cleaning of teeth and fluoride treatment can prevent problems often found in children’s teeth, like cavities and gum disease.
  • Repairing damaged teeth: Childhood is a whirlwind of activity, and sometimes teeth get chipped, knocked out, or damaged. A dediatric dentist can help to correct these problems.

How often should I take my child to the dentist?

We recommend a check-up, every six months with one of our pediatric dentists.

What if my child finds it difficult to sit still in the dentist’s chair?

Our team of pedodontists and dental nurses are able to manage uncooperative young children and help shape their behavior toward a more positive outcome. Our team will engage the child in story telling about teeth and how to look after them, while the child is sitting in the dental chair. In most cases treatment is provided using gentle, local anesthesia. Alternatively, , our expert team uses safe methods such as inhalation sedation (nitrous oxide or happy gas) or if required, general anesthesia.
